Mark Your Calendar for Disaster Preparedness Day!

Join San Mateo County at Disaster Preparedness Day, this Saturday, August 2 at the San Mateo County Event Center (1346 Saratoga Dr, San Mateo) from 10:00 am-2:00 pm.
Event is FREE! Free parking. Free admission. Free workshops. Free resources. And, yes, free hot dogs (while supplies last).
Visitors coming via public transportation or walking can enter through Gate 1 on the Delaware St. side of the Event Center. Visitors driving in can enter the East Parking Lot from Saratoga Dr. and walk in through Gate 8.
There will be a Prepare Stamp Challenge: get one Sticker by attending a Workshop and 6 Stamps by engaging with exhibitors in Cypress Hall. Then, take your completed booklet to the Emergency Management Booth to claim a prize (while supplies last).
Some of the workshops and activities will be offered in English, Spanish, and Mandarin:
- How to Use a Fire Extinguisher
- How to Pack a Go Bag
- Storytime with a Firefighter
The Be Ready Red Cross workshop will be offered in English and in Spanish.
There will be a presentation on Financial & Legal Preparedness led by a law firm who is representing many of the survivors of the Altadena wildfire. They learned a lot about what is needed after a disaster toward the path of recovery. Come to this presentation to learn about strategies to minimize stress and frustration in the weeks and months following a disaster.
Reminder: Service Dogs are always welcome, but pets are not allowed on Event Center grounds. Please leave your pets comfortably at home.
