Kat Wuelfing Takes the Helm at MPWD
BELMONT, CA (October, 2023) – At its Regular meeting on September 28, 2023 the Board of Directors for the Mid-Peninsula Water District (MPWD) appointed Kat Wuelfing as the new General Manager for the District. The appointment is the culmination of a two-year succession plan that navigated the recent retirement of several long-term MPWD employees, including that of former General Manager, Tammy Rudock, in April 2023.
Mr. Rene Ramirez, who served as Interim General Manager for the past year, commented, “The hard work that was put into the succession plan by the MPWD Board, Management, and Employee Association has paid off for the District in 2023. It is a priority to maintain continuity of high-level service to our rate payers – service that flows from qualified and dedicated people in all positions. Over the past year, Kat has proven to be the right person for such a key position as General Manager here at the District. She has risen to the challenge during the leadership transition and we look forward to a new era with Kat at the helm.”
With the unanimous vote for this appointment, the MPWD Board of Directors concludes a rigorous recruitment process and executive search amongst a field of highly-qualified candidates. Board President, Louis J. Vella, remarked, “The District is glad to welcome Kat officially to the office of the General Manager, a position of considerable responsibility and challenge. She has accepted this leadership role with assuredness and is a team player that supports the mission of MPWD. Her recent authoring of the Two-Year Strategic Plan shows her clear understanding of the opportunities and demands that lie ahead for the District.”
“I am grateful that I have been able to work with all of the District’s amazing staff as Assistant General Manager over the last year,” said Kat Wuelfing, “and am honored the Board has chosen me to lead the District into the future. I am following in some very big footsteps behind both Rene Ramirez as Interim General Manager and Tammy Ruddock with her 10 years as General Manager. I am thankful for their support and guidance.”
With the General Manager position being filled by Kat Wuelfing, Rene Ramirez will resume his position as Operations Manager, for which he has served with skill and dedication since 2015. The leadership changes are effective October 1, 2023.
