MPWD Honors Our Public Works First Responders

Recognizing National First Responders Day – October 28, 2025

The Mid-Peninsula Water District (MPWD) proudly joins communities nationwide in recognizing National First Responders Day on October 28, 2025. This annual observance honors the men and women who stand on the front lines to keep our communities safe—firefighters, police officers, paramedics, 911 operators, emergency medical technicians, and public works professionals.

As the MPWD Board of Directors affirmed in its October 23rd proclamation, public works professionals—including the dedicated MPWD water crews—are also first responders. When emergencies strike, whether earthquakes, wildfires, power outages, or major water main breaks, MPWD staff act swiftly to protect public health and restore essential water service. Their efforts ensure that clean, reliable water continues to flow when it matters most.

In 2019, the U.S. Senate officially recognized public works employees among the nation’s first responders, acknowledging their critical role in maintaining community resilience and safety. MPWD is proud to stand with the American Public Works Association (APWA) in honoring these often-unsung heroes who safeguard our infrastructure, health, and quality of life.

MPWD invites all residents to take a moment on October 28 to thank our local first responders—and to remember that your water district team is always prepared to respond when our community needs them most.
