MPWD Welcomes Two New Members to the Board

Louis Vella Elected President; Marks 20th Year of Service to MPWD

As the MPWD enters its 90th year of service to the local community, it ushers in two new members to its Board of Directors as a result of the November 6 statewide election within the boundaries of MPWD. During the regular Board Meeting in December, MPWD’s new president, Louis J. Vella, welcomed Brian Schmidt and Kirk R. Wheeler and expressed his appreciation for their interest in serving the MPWD and its customers on the Board of Directors.

During the Regular Board Meeting in November, Louis Vella, who enters his 20th year serving the MPWD Board, was elected president. Matthew P. Zucca, an MPWD Board Member since 2005, was elected vice president.

When asked about his 20 years of service to MPWD, Vella replied, “It has been my pleasure and I truly enjoy working with my Board colleagues and staff to ensure dependable water service and customer satisfaction remain our top priority.”

Vella assumes the president’s seat at the dawn of MPWD’s celebration of 90 years of water operations and service to the local community, which includes the City of Belmont and portions of San Carlos, Redwood City, and San Mateo County. The Mid-Peninsula Water District (formerly Belmont County Water District) was formed in 1929 under the County Water District Act of California and today serves more than 28,000 customers.

“We are just as committed today as we were 90 years ago to the mission of providing a safe, high-quality, reliable supply of water for current and future generations,” remarked Vella. “Every day we work hard for present and future needs of our customers, which is evidenced by our 5-year Capital Improvement Program (CIP) that is well underway and making great strides in rebuilding a water infrastructure that will last generations. And, we are proud of everyone’s commitment to quality work and financial stewardship along the way.”

The Mid-Peninsula Water District Board meetings are held on the fourth Thursday of each month at 6:30 pm at 3 Dairy Lane, Belmont, CA 94002.
